Texas Dept. of Licensing and Regulation - TDLR Revised Guidelines for Barbering/Cosmetology and Nail Salons: Under the June 3 revision to the guidelines, cosmetology salons, barber shops, and massage establishments should continue to operate with at least six feet between operating work stations.In addition, barber and cosmetology employees should be instructed to understand that young children and persons who are unable to adjust or remove face coverings should not be regarded as suitable candidates for wearing face coverings. The decision is up to the individual or their parent, guardian or attendant.

In order to provide a safe environment and to help prevent the spread of Covid-19 we ask that everyone follows the guidelines set out by the State.

To the stylist fretting over bills and concerns for how #covid19 will affect us all in the upcoming months. I am with you. To the stylist who has to make due because the supply stores have closed but your salon hasn't yet. I am with you. To the stylist alone in their salon because co-renters and coworkers have taken leave. I am with you. To the stylist who stays extra late to ultra sanitize and resanitize just in case. I am with you. To the stylists who have empty slots from cancellations but still need to be there. I am with you. To the stylist working on side hussles. I am with you.
We are in one of the oldest professions. Barber-Surgeons were real people y'all. Cosmetology has always been needed and wanted. Through depression eras to pandemics- there will always be a need for us. We don't just cut or color hair. We are the person people come to in crisis. We are the unofficial listeners and counslers to many. Because we work with people, not just hair. We are your friend, your "therapist", your trusted professional.
When the pandemic finally comes to a head and we start to recover as a world population it will be vital for us to be there for the people. They will think they need a haircut but really they will need to decompress these events. We will hear similar stories over and over again. And each story from each person will effect us. We will carry that energy and transform it into something tangible. Something beautiful and wonderful and it will give people normalcy, comfort and hope.
To my fellow shear sisters and brothers... take care of yourself now so you can take care of others later. I am with you.

Governor Orders Non-Essential Businesses to Close
On March 31, Gov. Greg Abbott signed Executive Order GA-14, ordering that people and businesses should follow CDC and Presidential guidelines by practicing good hygiene, environmental cleanliness, and sanitation, implementing social distancing, and working from home if possible.
Effective April 2, 2020, only essential services are allowed. Only people providing essential services are permitted to be out in public providing services. This new order prohibits services from being provided by persons licensed under Chapter 401, Sections 501-522, Health and Safety Code (Laser Hair Removal) and Chapters 455 (Massage Therapists), 1601 (Barbers), 1602 (Cosmetologists), and 1603 (Barbering and Cosmetology), Occupations Code.
Additional facilities are closed. Governor Abbott had previously closed massage establishments on March 20. Under the new order, barber and cosmetology shops regulated under Chs. 1601, 1602, and 1603, Occupations Code, and laser hair removal facilities regulated under Chapter 401, Sections 501-522, Health and Safety Code must close by 12:01 a.m. April 2, 2020. The order is in effect until April 30, 2020 and supersedes any city or county orders.
UPDATE:
Denton County Commissioners Court unanimously agreed to extend the existing Executive Order and Disaster Declaration through April 7, 2020.
The order, issued by Denton County Judge Andy Eads on March 24 and ratified by the Commissioners Court in an emergency meeting on March 27, includes a Stay at Home mandate and the continued closure of non-essential businesses.
The Court will review the order again during their next regular meeting on Tuesday, April 7, 2020.

Beginning Tuesday March 24, 2020, nonessential business in Denton County are required to close. This includes salons, spas, nail salons, and massage studios. Any appointments you have at the salon will be rescheduled.

Meds that can cause Hair Loss
Ketoconazole is an oral antifungal pill
1) Cholesterol-lowering medications — atorvastatin and simvastatin
Atorvastatin (Lipitor) and simvastatin (Zocor) belong to a group of cholesterol-lowering medications known as “statins”. Both drugs have hair loss as a reported adverse effect. The newer statin, rosuvastatin (Crestor), luckily does not have this risk.
2) Anticoagulant — warfarin
The anticoagulant, warfarin (Coumadin), is a commonly used blood thinner that has been reported to cause hair loss.
3) Blood pressure medications — captopril and lisinopril
ACE inhibitor are a type of medication used to treat high blood pressure and include the medicines, captopril and lisinopril. Both of the drugs have been known to cause hair loss, but only in around 1% of patients taking them.
4) Psoriasis treatment — acitretin
Acitretin (Soriatane) is a pill used for the treatment of psoriasis and has a well-known adverse effect of hair loss.
5) Anti-arrhythmia drug — amiodarone
Amiodarone (Cordarone or Pacerone) is used in patients with heart rhythm problems known as arrhythmias and has a rare, but reported, side effect of hair loss. ) Anticonvulsant — divalproex
Anticonvulsant divalproex (Depakote) is used for seizure disorders, bipolar disorder and for migraine prevention, and can lead to hair loss.
7) Antacid — cimetidine
Cimetidine (Tagamet) is an over-the-counter acid reducer used for ulcers and reflux disease. Hair loss has been reported, though infrequently, in people taking it.
8) Gout medication — colchicine
Colchicine is a medication used for the treatment of acute gout attacks. It does carry a very small risk of hair ;oss
9) Steroids — testosterone and progesterone
Hair loss is reported in people taking the hormones testosteroneand/or progesterone. Medications containing progesterone, like Depo-Provera (medroxyprogesterone) injections, Provera, or Prometrium tablets, are well-described to cause hair loss in some people.
10) Acne treatments — isotretinion
Absorica or Accutane are used in the treatment of severe acne and contain the active ingredient, isotretinoin. Hair loss is a well-known adverse reaction for both medications.
11) Antifungal — ketoconazole
that can cause hair loss.
